I take delight in looking over our family albums, they trigger moments that would have been obscurred by the day to day.
I love being able to share them with Andrew and look forward to sharing them with our son.
My parents even have their own photographic family trees which cover 6 generations in their homes.
I find people's family photographs mesmerising and they tell a tale to the viewer.
This is where my preliminary fascination with photography
began and I continued the process documenting my life as a teenager with a little compact camera; it wasn’t until I left school and studied
on an Art Foundation course that I got my first SLR camera (I have just bought my two year old son his first little robust camera… but he
still always wants mine for some reason!) and started to experiment more. From here I went on to achieve a first class honours degree in
photography at Derby University.
Since then I have worked in a commercial studio and run a small-scale portrait business from the same studio. The portrait images
I did at this time were shot on a white cove and though I still enjoyed creating great shots for people, I didn’t really feel that
they could be classed as great memories for people to cherish. They didn’t tell a ‘tale’ to the viewer that I value in my own and
others' family photographs. Consequently I decided to work on location with a documentary approach.
My aim is to capture you in your natural environment to create visually stunning, unique and enduring images. I will give you and your family a visual
narrative of something you enjoy or record your day-to-day life.
